Recently, I had the honor of photographing a phenomenal group of babes. It was a day of laughter, self-love and growth. During the shoot, I asked each one to tell me about their relationships with their bodies, and each woman had a different story to tell. They were allowed to share as much or as little as they wanted. I’d like to take the opportunity to share their stories as a way to recognize the strength of each of them individually and hopefully other women those with similar feelings about their bodies. Here’s Mandy’s story, who you may recognize from the Buxom Boudoir studio. She’s one of my amazing hair and makeup babes!
I haven’t had the best relationship with my body. I have struggled with the way I looked since I was a little girl, as a result of severe bullying. I have hundreds of scars from a previous cutting disorder. I also have a lot of spider veins and stretchmarks from being pregnant. It has been a journey learning to love myself and accepting my body. Modeling has helped me get out of my comfort zone. When I see a beautiful image of myself, it reminds me that I’m not that nerdy little girl anymore. My scars are my battle wounds and they show how hard I’ve fought to stay alive. They tell a story of a girl who has overcome so much tragedy and heartache. Instead of feeling ashamed, I try my best to be proud of how far I’ve come. I’ve learned to love and embrace my scars.
When do you feel most radiant?
I feel most radiant when I’ve got my hair and makeup all done. I also love modeling and creating beautiful art.
