Self-Love in the Woods

Before this summer comes to an official end, I wanted to share this glorious outdoor session with my friend and fellow boudoir photographer, Babe P. The first time we met it was for coffee to chit chat about business and the wonderful struggles of the entrepreneurial life. We clicked. Our vibes were in sync, so of course the next time we wanted to hang out, we both decided to get half naked.

There’s something magical about photographing people out in the woods, especially when that person is figuring out how to love their body. Metamorphosis happens out in the woods, and photographing women outside is like seeing the transformation right before your eyes. I know Babe P has dealt with body image issues like we all have. She used to get in front of the camera a lot more than she currently does. Now she spends her time behind the lens empowering others. I asked her what she thought about her boudoir experience, and she had some beautiful insights I wanted to share.

Would you mind sharing what all you loved about the experience with outdoor boudoir?

“I loved getting in front of the camera for once, but it took a lot of courage to do it even though I take boudoir photos of people all the time. I personally have a history of not loving myself very much and doing drastic things to change my body. Even now, years later, I still don’t look at myself in the mirror. So it was a big step to confront those things head on and be ‘seen’ for who I am in this moment in time. It was freeing to just let go and rely on Alicia to capture me. I trusted her and her vibe instantly. She has a way of making you feel so safe and loved that you don’t even have time to think about your flaws. What I loved most is that Alicia allowed me to just be myself and move and she caught all the little things about me that make me who I am! It was wonderful to be outside, wearing weird things and creating art with ME as the subject.”

Do you feel like you have a better relationship with your body? What will you do in the future to show yourself some self-love?

“Honestly I don’t know how to answer this one. Since our photo shoot I’ve already changed so much, both in body and mind. I’m taking care of myself for the first time in my life the healthy way and am showing myself a level of compassion that I never have before. The images we captured don’t look like the current me. A normal person might see pictures of themselves when they were heavier and get upset but I look at them with reverence because I am not defined by my weight.

Alicia captured more than just my body in a photograph, she captured a piece of my soul. And you can’t pair that with a number on the scale.

In the future I will be making sure that I get my ass in front of the camera every once in awhile because it’s important to exist in photographs.”

Why did you choose Buxom Boudoir?

“Ummm because you’re amazeballz and creative and we bonded over photography/ personal stuff.”

Would you ever do another boudoir shoot?

“Fuck yes! I can’t wait.”
