New + New = Awesome Night Boudoir Photography

Recognize this babe? It’s my friend Taty, and you might have seen her face around my website before. Whenever I have a new idea or I want to just play around, we typically work together. This time, Taty had a new idea in mind and I was ready to run with her.

“I was talking to with my mom and she thinks I should try implied nude…lol. So I immediately thought of you!!”

Ummm A) I think it’s awesome that Taty’s mom wanted her to try implied nude photography and B) I love that I’m the person folks think of when they need nakey nakey photos.

Of course I said yes! I was excited to help her try something new, and I wanted to give something new a whirl, too. I have never shot in my studio at night. There are no lamps or ceiling lights normally in my studio, so I didn’t think I’d be able to make my studio look cozy at night. I have a tall light that I use often for my colorful photos, but I’ve never used it as – you know – a normal actual light. Normalcy isn’t my style!

If Taty was going to step outside her comfort zone, I felt it only fair that I do the same. I grabbed my light stand and went to work! I did haul one of my personal lamps to the basement, but as we experimented, I decided I wasn’t a fan. That’s the beauty of creative shoots; I can make mistakes and I don’t feel bad about it. I can try something I’ve never done before and if it goes awry, it goes awry.

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Embrace them! It’s how we learn. If I never wanted to make a mistake, I would never try anything new. If I never tried anything new, I would never have bought candles for my studio, used a colorful light, shot in Vegas, or have started a boudoir business in the first place. Quitting my 9 to 5 was terrifying, and I’ve made so many mistakes, but this is also the most worthwhile thing I’ve ever done with my life.

Yes, trying something new is scary. Trying to come up with creative ideas is hard. I’m sure Taty was a little worried about shooting topless for the very first time, but she did it, and she looks powerful and majestic as all get-out!

Will I be shooting at night in my studio again? I don’t know. Maybe for fun! I am glad I gave it a go, though. I think Taty and I created beautiful portraits together. Her candlelight portraits make me feel all warm and fuzzy, and I am proud of everything I learned while shooting and editing these images.

If there’s something in your life you want to do but you’re afraid because it might be a mistake, I hope you find a way to try it. Our lives are short. You gotta go for it. If it’s something small, do it now! If it’s something big, make a game plan and phsyche yourself up, and then do it! I know you can, and you’ll create something beautiful in the process. If it doesn’t work, you can learn from it and move on to something even better.
