You guuuuuuuyyyyyysssss, I don’t even have words for how much I loved this boudoir shoot. We got to use glitter, and is there really anything better than that? I like to treat every boudoir shoot like a little party, so if we can incorporate glitter, a little party turns into a total kickass celebration. Glitter wasn’t even going to be utlized at first, but Babe A asked me “hey, is there anything you want to do that you haven’t before” and I knew immediately I wanted her to sparkle. She’s a fellow glitter lover and was on board right away.
Before we get to the glitter, though, there were plenty of other looks we need to gasp over. I loved the pieces that Babe A brought, and she even rocked one of the lace bodysuits I have at the Buxom wardrobe. She was excited, energetic and ready to rock. I loved her energy and her willingness to try anything. When we were still planning her shoot, Babe A said she wasn’t photogenic BUT LOOK AT HER! She’s gorgeous! She also mentioned that she’s not a girly girly or super feminine, which is totally fine. We skipped the curls, kept her eye makeup softer than a traditional smoky eye, and put her in sexy, empowering dark colors. You can still be a goddess even if you’re not super feminine. They aren’t mutually exclusive!
Before every shoot, I ask my babes if there are any areas of their body they are still learning to love. Almost every woman has something, but that’s why boudoir is awesome. It can show you how gorgeous all those little “flaws” are. Then you realize they aren’t flaws – they are just a part of who you are. And while boudoir isn’t the perfect solution to every body image struggle, it’s a ginormous step in the right direction. Babe A mentioned she was still coming to terms with the stretchmarks on her stomach, and I wanted to make sure we photographed them so she could see how beautiful her body is with them. I asked Babe A how she feels about her body now, and she said “I have had a very interesting love-hate relationship with my body. Many people tell me they’d kill for some of the parts of my body I actually despise. I’ve come to a point where I love me, and I’ll continue to see my body not as a size, or number, but as me.” That’s what I love to hear!
Clearly this shoot was a celebration of the self-love Babe A enjoys. This was a celebration of all she’s accomplished with her body! I loved having her in my studio, and I’m glad I got to be a part of her self-love journey!
